Market data on this site is updated manually at minimum weekly and does not reflect real-time prices. Verify with primary exchange sources before making financial decisions.

What that means in practice

Every price, rate and index value on Market Pulse Africa is entered by an editor. There is no live feed. Each figure carries the date and time it was last updated, shown beside it on every card and table, and that timestamp is the honest statement of how current the number is.

A commodity price on this site may therefore be several days old. In a quiet week that hardly matters. In a week when cocoa moves 8% it matters a great deal, and the timestamp is how you tell the difference.

What this data is for

It is for orientation, for context, and for the analysis published alongside it. It tells you roughly where a market is and which direction it has been moving, which is what most readers need most of the time.

What this data is not for

It is not for trading. It is not for valuation, settlement, or any calculation where being a few days out has a cost. It is not investment advice, and nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell any asset. No one at this publication knows your circumstances, your currency of account, or your risk tolerance.

If you are about to act on a figure, get it from the exchange, the central bank or your broker first. That takes a few minutes and removes the entire problem.

Price alerts

The email alerts offered on commodity pages are checked once a day against the same manually updated prices. An alert can therefore reach you days after the market actually crossed the level you set. It is a prompt to go and look, not a trading signal, and it is not a service you should rely on for anything time-sensitive.

Where we find an error in published data we correct it on the page. If you believe a figure here is wrong, tell us — include the page and the source you are comparing against, and we will check it.
